Being Abhishek's World music project, ISM has much to flaunt from violinist Indradeep Ghosh to Drummer Ratul Shankar Ghosh, Vocalists Shounak Chatterjee, Debasree Mondol, Sonia Mukherjee & Usri Banerjee, keyboardist Shourav Roy. Thriving on talent unlimited and creativity unrestricted, Abhishek Basu's ISM has already performed in many top venues all over India.

History - " I have been making different compositions for the last few years. But I have never thought of giving them the result till October 24th 2003.That day I was jamming & sharing my compositions with Indradeep, Ratul, & few other musicians. Suddenly all of them told me to give my ideas a good result. After a long discussion I found that they are eager to accompany myself to give my compositions a unique shape.

That's how a new project was formed. When the matter of name came - I always thought of something new - ISM. Why ??? as the idea of making the project was sudden - I named the first word 'Impromptu', the total composition part became 'Symphonic' with the melody of Indradeep's violin & Shourav's keyboard ,and the 'Mind' involved behind this project is Mine. That's how I named it IMPROMPTU SYMPHONIC MIND.
That's how the project ISM generated on 24th October 2003.Very shortly after that I got an offer from Golden Voice music company to release an Album. I thought this would be a right time to make the audience know about my project ISM. I recorded with my members few of my compositions, based on varieties of Rhythms and Indian classical ragas. That was the first performance of ISM, on my World music Album ACROSTIC." -- ABHISHEK BASU

Inspiration - " As a disciple of Tabla exponent Bikram Ghosh, I observed his involvement & dedication for his unique project Rhythmscape which inspired me a lot. Apart from that I got a lot of inspiration from Ustad Zakir Hussain (his Shakti), Shivamani ( great Drummer), Trilok Gurtu ( percussion wizard) and many others. Projects of few world renound musicians inspired me also like - George Harrisson, Steve Gordon, and many others."

Compositions --- The compositions and concept of ISM, is by Abhishek Basu .On group compositions Abhishek's preference prevails while on solo numbers the accompanists have the liberty. Abhishek being a classical tabla player, the obvious influence of varieties of rhythm and classical music spill into his compositions. Abhishek's main objective is to produce rich rhythm oriented compositions having Indian classical music fused with western music. The main theme is to produce the greatness of Indian classical Raagas through western outlook, which will be easier for the new generation to understand and accept. Few compositions are coloured by vrieties of Grooves like Latin, African, etc .What has caught the imagination of the listners is the composition churned out by Abhishek's group and their interactive sessions with audience, for instance "Forign 2 Forigners" is an attempt at presenting a song on a long forgotten language. Also abhishek is using an important instrument, Japanese instrument called Handsonic , in his compositions. Handsonic has got over 1500 sounds allover the world and it adds a special taste to Abhishek's compositions

Performances - The year old project ISM of Abhishek Basu, has already performed several concerts allover the country like - International Food Festival, 2003 at INTERNATIONAL CLUB, Hyatt regency Celebrity Show, Taj Bengal, MUSIC WORLD (dedicated to TSUNAMI affected victims), few concerts at North Bengal and South India.
